2024 Crab Feed Recap

Article

What a night it was! On February 3, 2024, our community once again came together at the Shasta District Fairgrounds in Anderson for the 37th Annual One SAFE Place Crab Feed. It was an evening filled with compassion, friendship, excitement, and, of course, plenty of crab!

For those attending the crab feed for the first time, it may not be immediately apparent the immense love, effort, and support poured into making the event a reality. This longstanding fundraiser relies on the selfless dedication of volunteers who tirelessly ensure every detail is perfect. From the logistics of setup and teardown and the joy of participating in the crab conga line, each person contributes with a heartfelt commitment to OSP's mission.

We are incredibly grateful to receive support from community members and businesses who generously donated to our raffle and auction. This year marked a particularly exceptional outpouring of giving, with donations from Cicada Cantina for a Taco Bar for 12 during Kool April Nites, the Trek FX+2 Electric Bike from Redding Electric Utility, and the Vino Bello Resort Experience in Napa Valley donated anonymously.

As the doors opened and the crowd streamed in, it was evident how passionate the community desires to assist OSP in aiding those who need and seek support. We were inspired in moments shared by each attendee during the event— moments such as the crab conga line and excitement seeing bidders compete for the amazing auction items. But the most remarkable aspect of the evening was the overwhelming generosity displayed by each and every attendee. Together, we raised an incredible amount of $173,631!

To our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and attendees—thank you. Your dedication to our cause is inspiring, and we are profoundly grateful for your continued support.

But the support doesn’t end with the crab feed. It fuels our ongoing efforts to support survivors and prevent future violence. Last year, thanks to our supporters, OSP and CLC were proud to support over 8,400 adults and nearly 900 children/youth, including 8,482 overnight stays in a shelter, 4,343 walk-ins (crisis intake), 938 crisis hotline calls (during non-business hours), 276 transitional housing placements, and 252 children/youth in the shelter.

Building recovery and well-being is a long-term endeavor that requires a comprehensive trauma-informed and holistic healing-centered approach. Your continued support ensures we can sustain programs, build capacity, and expand services to our most vulnerable neighbors.

As we move forward, let us remember that our work is far from over. There are still many challenges ahead, but together, we can overcome them. With your ongoing support, we can continue to be a beacon of hope for those in need. Thank you for standing with us in this vital mission.
