Redding, CA- Mary Boisselle and Daniel Knott earned the title of Champion of the eleventh annual Dancing with the
Stars Shasta County Style competition! Mary and Daniel danced to Orange Colored Sky in a Foxtrot and to Keep Your
Hands to Yourself in a West Coast Swing to earn the title. Boisselle commented from the stage after receiving the top
prize in a shower of confetti, “I have been humbled in the face of our community’s generosity during our fundraising for
One Safe Place. I would like to thank my husband Jim, Daniel who accepted the challenge, Dave Stewart our dance
coach and my fundraising team. I am grateful for our friends, our customers, Sunset Rotary, Anderson Rotary and the
staff of One Safe Place. It took all of these wonderful people to make this happen. I am so glad that I was able to be part
of this truly magical event.”
On July 8th at the Cascade Theatre Dancing with the Stars Shasta County Style was held to benefit the life changing
services of One SAFE Place. Approximately 550 people turned out to support the eleventh annual competition. The
event was a spectacular win for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse as over $70,000 was raised to support OSP’s lifechanging
programs, according to Event Manager, Kristi Hanson.
The audience weighed in by the purchase of voting tickets; twelve tickets could be purchased for $10. During
intermissions, guests stuffed hundreds of tickets in voting boxes for their favorite couple. After less than three weeks of
scheduled practice, the stars enthusiastically danced diverse and entertaining free style routines.
Of the other local stars that competed to win the Champion trophy, Tyler Whitlow and OSP staff member Kelliea Guthrie
earned the coveted “Judges’ Choice” award for their routines which brought in the highest overall scores based on form,
choreography and technique. The “People’s Choice” trophy was awarded to Mary Boisselle and Daniel Knott who earned
the greatest amount of votes from the audience.
