Jean King of One SAFE Place is moving from her post as executive director and into a new role as director emeritus of the organization.
King, 68, has been with One SAFE Place, a local shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, for more than five years and was instrumental in the construction of the Sierra Center shelter that opened last year on Benton Drive in Redding.
King said the opening of the center was her “proudest moment.”
The organization is now able to serve more people and has increased the average stay of clients from 11 days to 35 days.
“We’re doing a better job, and for that, I’m proud,” King said. “Whoever thought we’d end up with a building like this? Never in my wildest dreams.”
