One SAFE Place Board of Directors Announces
Jean King to Transition from Role of Executive Director
Redding, CA (September 29, 2016) – The One SAFE Place Board of Directors announced today the transition of Executive Director Jean King into the role of Director Emeritus effective October 1, 2016. The emphasis of King’s new role will be to complete the final goals of the Sierra Center Capital Campaign.
“In my 5 ½ years of service with One SAFE Place, my proudest moment was the opening of the Sierra Center,” King said. “It has allowed us to increase the number of people served in Shelter by 91% and increase the average length of stay from 11 to 35 days. These increases are making real changes in the lives of those we serve.” Jean spoke of the tragic loss of Sandy, Shelby and Shasta Miller that inspired the Sierra Center’s construction. “We focus on honoring their lives every day through our work with families in crisis.”
Under King’s direction One SAFE Place has taken advantage of many growth opportunities, culminating in the opening of the Sierra Center last November. The merger of Shasta Women’s Refuge with the Shasta Family Justice Center, the adoption of the model of co-located services under one roof, the inclusiveness of male clients reflected in the organization’s name change to One SAFE Place, the success of Camp HOPE in Shasta County, and the expansion of the Children’s Program has garnered One SAFE Place the reputation as a nationally recognized model.
The OSP Board has named Deputy Director Angela Jones as Interim Executive Director as of October 1st. Jones has been in a leadership role at One SAFE Place for 14 years. King expressed that she is extremely pleased with the Board’s decision adding that “Angela is highly qualified for this position. I anticipate a smooth transition based on her years of experience, dedication to our mission, and broad range of skills.”
