(Redding, CA) — One SAFE Place (OSP) has just been selected to receive funding through a Two-year Transitional Housing (XH) Program of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services for $600,000 to establish an innovative new program.

In an ongoing effort to fulfill the mission of the new Sierra Center (to serve the victims and survivors of domestic violence and their children), OSP submitted a unique grant proposal.   “Instead of asking for money to purchase or build transitional housing, which is our greatest need, we proposed an entirely new way to provide transition housing: through a public/private partnership,” said Jean King, Executive Director.

OSP will form partnerships with local landlords who are willing to give clients priority when a vacancy occurs.  OSP will have a list of potential, screened renters.  Those clients selected will be eligible to receive rental assistance including rent, utilities, basic furnishings, and child care.  Clients in transitional housing units will be required to work toward independence.  “We will have the capacity to guarantee rent for up to a full year, as we continue to work with clients providing counseling, social service advocacy, education, support groups, employment search and other resources as needed,” King said.  Landlords will provide the standard services provided to any renter.

OSP projects that they may be able to help as many as 50 clients while contributing nearly $600,000 to the economy of Shasta County.  The program is estimated to begin September 2016.

Landlords who are interested in providing rentals may contact Angela Jones at 530-244-0118 x205 for more information.
