We Rely Heavily on the Help of Our Volunteers.
When I was growing up in Anderson, volunteering at my school and community was part of my life. Over the years between jobs and careers, I volunteered less and less. When I retired in 2005 I had no idea I would become Executive Director of One SAFE Place. In fact, I envisioned myself playing golf or traveling. But in 2011, the former Shasta Women’s Refuge and I found each other. It’s the best job I have ever had because so much of what I do is to give back in a significant way. Even when I’m tired, I am able to give that last ounce because it might make a difference. When you help others to live a violence free life, your heart is full.
Last year, volunteers donated 28,130 hours of service to One SAFE Place. If we had to fund this, it would cost $434,608. It’s clear that we cannot do this without your help. Volunteers are a critical part of the day-to-day functioning of our organization, performing a variety of tasks such as direct work with men, women and children, hotline advocacy, administrative work, fund raising projects, preparing meals for shelter, children’s parties, maintenance projects and much more.
