Art and Barbara volunteered 7 years ago to take in a young girl and her daughter who were leaving our shelter. Through their connection with First Church of the Nazarene, the couple stepped up to fill a need. Since then, they have helped 15 families with a Safe Transition and become surrogate grandparents to over 30 children.
Adopted families are given a safe place to stay on their property, as well as emotional support. Barbara says that she and Art, who is now 93, have richer lives because of the “lasting, life-long friendships” they form with those who stay at the “Bart Inn.”
Since the couple have started this program, fourteen of their fifteen adopted families have remained free from their previous abusive situation.
