commendatin On Saturday, February 6th at the 29th Annual One SAFE Place Crab Feed, Executive Director Jean King was honored by representatives from the offices of Senator Ted Gaines and Assemblyman Brian Dahle. King was presented with a California Legislature Resolution commending her efforts in assisting individuals and families affected by domestic violence and also for her dedication to the guidance of innovative One SAFE Place services.

In the Resolution, signed by both district representatives and marked with the California State Senate seal, the many accomplishments of King are outlined, including her instrumental role in the merger of the former Shasta Women’s Refuge and Shasta Family Justice Center into one organization and later her work to create One SAFE Place and build the current expanded Sierra Center facilities through a successful capital campaign.

King is also noted as a “compassionate and effective community leader who has dedicated herself to combating the dark scourge of domestic violence” in the Shasta County area.

“I was both honored and surprised by this recognition,” said King, adding, “As much as I was happy to be personally recognized, the real credit goes to the citizens of Shasta County who joined One SAFE Place in making eliminating domestic violence and sexual assault in our community a top priority. The health of our families is essential to the health of the whole community. I share this distinction with every citizen who contributed to making the dream of the Sierra Center a reality.”
